Owl Support Staff: Miss Smith (am & pm), Miss Morris (pm)

Key information

PE: An indoor PE session will usually take place on a Tuesday afternoon.  The children will change into their PE kit at school to support their self-care skills and physical development. Kit can stay in school throughout term time and be taken home to wash at the end of half term, or sooner if needed.

As well as indoor PE sessions, children will have time develop their physical development in our amazing outdoor space through running, climbing, balancing, jumping, throwing and much more!

Phonics: Phonics is taught daily through class sessions and guided reading. The children follow Essential Letters and Sounds and are encouraged to use what they have learnt in their independent writing. For updates on what is being taught each half term, please take a look at the curriculum overviews when they are sent out. If you need any more help, speak with Miss Emms or Mrs White.

Wider Curriculum: Throughout the day there are lots of chances for children to 'choose their learning' in Discovery Time. Both inside and outdoors, there are lots of learning opportunities set out to support our curriculum as well as the continuous provision (toys and resources that are always available) that children can access.

Assemblies: Reception children join in with the weekly Knights of the Week assembly with the rest of the school. As the year progresses they will join in with other assemblies to prepare them for Key Stage 1.

What does our Early Years curriculum look like?

Our EYFS team worked closely together to create a curriculum that starts with our 2-year-old children and supports them on their journey until they finish Reception ready to move to Key Stage 1. Our curriculum is based around four aspirations for children to reach by the end of their time in Reception and there are stages carefully planned throughout their time in nursery to lay the foundations and skills to reach these goals. Each of the aspirations links to one or more of our Knights' Way values. The main values we focus on through these aspirations are 'collaboration' and 'nurture'. Across the aspirations there are learning opportunities for the Prime and Specific Areas of the EYFSP.

Our aspirations for all children by the end of their time in the EYFS are:

Design & build an obstacle course then show others how to use it.

Make up a collaborative story with peers & act it out using props they have made themselves.

Teach younger children how to care for an animal.

Growing vegetables to make soup.
